Meditating on this verse from the 23 Psalms I am so comforted.  I am thankful , so thankful for the leading of the Lord in my daily life.  There are times when I do not know what to do or where to go and I need the constant guidance of the Lord’s staff to guide me to just the place I need to be, sadly however I do not stay there long for my mind and heart are prone to wonder.  But what a comfort it is that when I wonder into sinful thoughts or habits that my Heavenly Father will use his rod of correction on my heart!  I shudder to think of the wrongs I might do if it where not for His rod and staff.  They comfort me in that I know that I am indeed His child, Hebrews 12:8 ” But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” and they comfort me because I am reminded of my Lords faithfulness towards me even when I am unfaithful.  You see, I desperately need a Savior! The Lord is so mighty to save and He is able to save to the uttermost!

There is but one perfect parent in all of space and time, our Heavenly Father.  The rest of us , the whole human race ,not only fall short(a term used by those parents whom feel that they possess only a few minor defects but are otherwise great parents), but have so corrupted and perverted the station of parenting due to our  own deceitful hearts that it is complete wickedness to try to parent apart from the whole counsel of God contained in His word.

The only hope any of us have of being good parents is to start with humbling ourselves before God.  Any self righteous arrogance will only destroy us and our children.  Any time one thinks that they know better than God concerning the upbringing of their children is inviting disaster and ruin. Too often I have heard parents declare their contempt towards the paddling of  their young ones as though it were cruel and inhumane when in reality the neglect of it when it is needed is actually cruel and inhumane.  Our Perfect Father tells us  in Proverbs 13:24 ” He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him early.”   Early meaning while they are young.  Proverbs 22:15 “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” Proverbs 23:13-14 “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.”  And again in Proverbs 29:15 ” The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”  As parents we need to abide in and trust our Heavenly Father in all things, especially with the rearing and training of these little eternal souls that he has so lovingly bestowed upon us. Not only are our lives to bring honor and glory to our God but also the lives of our children are to honor and glorify our Wonderful Creator God.
